… a 7’45” journeying time.

There is wifi available in this terminal. On the DGM Site, Ade Belewbeloible has been answering questions over at tahoe.com ahead of tonight's trio gig at the Crystal Bay Casino.

Q: Does King Crimson still get back together?

A: We did have some dates last year and everyone really loved it and I thought we would do more this year, but Robert (Fripp) has changed his mind and says he doesn’t want to do anything at the moment. So we’ll leave it at that. Maybe we’re taking a nap, maybe we’re not. But I’m ready and willing to go any time. At the same time I’m happy with what I have now. If I could just do this forever I’d be happy too.

Ade recently gave another interview, also newslinked on the DGM site, where he was careful not to give offence.

Gazette: Sorry – I didn’t want to force you into a comment you didn’t want to make there.

Belew: No, that’s okay. I have to be careful because I love the person we’re talking about and respect him greatly and don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings and don’t want to say anything that I’ll later regret. It’s one of the things I’ve learned about the way things are now: You could say something casually and it’ll be on the Internet that evening. (Laughs) In big headlines. So anyway…

Gazette: That business earlier this year on your blog, where you replied to another blogger who blamed you for King Crimson “breaking up” over a scheduling problem …how overblown was all that? The band never actually broke up, right?

Belew: No, it didn’t. That was totally blown out of proportion. I have my thoughts on what really happened: I think in the end it was just that it was already preordained that we weren’t going to do any more shows, so it was just waiting for the excuse as to why we weren’t going to do them. (Laughs) But it was way blown out of proportion. There were never any serious problems at all… Robert and I are as close as ever, and may work together again whenever he wants to. King Crimson might decide it wants to play some more shows, or it may never…

Let’s note that two people may well have different ideas of the same subject without either being “wrong”. The plan agreed at the end of the final NYC Nokia show was for further Crim-celebrating mid-April to mid-May. When Artist Advocate Andy was in touch with Ade closer to the time, Ade e-replied that he had conflicting dates & was not available. Martha Belewbeloible came back a few days later saying Ade was available. The problem for me was, that in between the two points, my on-switch was thrown to off. This was not an excuse I was waiting / hoping for, to abandon the planned Crimsonising. I was psyched; then I was un-psyched.

Probably my position is different to that of the other Crims, in that much of my professional life is now off the road; and much of the responsibility I carry when Crim is in active mode pre-empts me taking on very much outside Crim at all. So, the dates-issue was not a question for me of returning to Crim a little later: to remain in Crimson go-mode, but without definite dates, would have put my life on a holding pattern. The momentum from last October was lost.

We then ran into additional practicalities, primarily Gavin’s commitment to Porcupine Tree (until September / October 2010); TLev & Pat’s various concerns; and Adrian’s own work with the stunning Belewbeloid Power Trio of Terror & Astonishment.

There was a window, the window closed. It is a folly to expect an open window to remain open forever.

Ade is my pal, I miss visiting The Basement Of Mount Juliet, and who knows what?

18.42    From a pal, also in Nashville…

While reading your diary entry of Tuesday, 6th October 2009 (regarding the European press guy at the AIR Studio playback) I was reminded of something that occurred during your Q&A at Antarctica Studios.

I was in the kitchen area doing some clean up and was approached by five or six Q&A attendees. I was working in a corner and they surrounded me in an arc, asking all manner of questions about you - all at once. I informed them that this was actually the first time that I had met you, and that I probably knew no more about RF than they did. However, they continued with questions and I was getting a little bit of a feeling that they didn't believe me - surely I must know some "inside" details into the mind of Robert Fripp?

I began to feel a pressure, and I mean literally - like I was being pressed back toward the wall. I know that they were enthusiastic, excited, and meant no harm. However the feeling was uncomfortable and I had a great urge to get outside of that arc. I made a quick excuse that I was needed elsewhere and had to actually "break out" through the line of people.

As I was walking away I immediately realized, "This is what RF must have to endure (x100) every time that he goes out in public!"

True story!

Arriving c. 19.45 UK time. This large & modest hotel specializes in industrial-level packages: very cheap, lotsa people.

A walk into town with Trev. Trev favoured sitting for an Italian meal, I opted for Indian takeaway in the room…
